Jet ski and quad bike in Tenerife: how the combo days work

A jet ski and quad bike in Tenerife on the same booking sounds simple. It is two activities in two places, with different rules for each, and a little planning makes it work.

Sea in the morning, mountain in the afternoon

Tenerife packs coast and high country close together, and the combos use that. You spend an hour on a jet ski along the south coast, and a few hours on a quad bike climbing into the island's volcanic interior. For anyone who wants one big adventure day rather than two half-days, a jet ski and quad bike in Tenerife is an obvious pairing.

The listing booked on this page is a quad trip of 3 to 4 hours, by day or at sunset, that you can book alone or combined with a jet ski ride. It has 1,412 reviews averaging 4.65 and starts from $70. Guides speak English, Spanish, French and Italian. The starting price is for the simplest option; adding the jet ski raises it on the booking page. Choose the day or the sunset departure there too, and check how the timing of each fits the jet ski slot you have in mind before you confirm.

A second listing sells the pair as one package: 1 hour of jet ski on the south coast and 3 hours of quad riding towards Teide, given as 4 hours, for groups of up to 4. It starts from $116 and averages 4.48 from 44 reviews. Its instructors speak English and Spanish.

The quad half: route, kit and limits

The quad part starts from the operator's base in Guía de Isora, on the west side of the island. The listed stops are Mirador de los Poleos, Pico Viejo and the Zapatilla de la Reina, known in English as the Queen's Shoe, with views of Mount Teide along the way. A drink and a snack are included.

You are kitted out for the mountain: thermal jackets, full-face helmets and gloves are provided, and 1 guide leads at most 5 quads. Fully closed shoes are required. Each quad carries up to 200 kg and needs a cash deposit, separate from the price you pay online. Take the thermal jacket seriously; the air at height is far cooler than on the beach you left in the morning.

Quad drivers must be over 18 and carry a valid physical car driving licence; passengers must be at least 7 and 1.2 m tall. If weather or a closure of Mount Teide blocks the main route, the group takes an alternative route towards the coast. Keep your licence card in your wallet, not on your phone: the listing asks for the physical card. If your licence is in a non-Latin script, ask before you book whether a translation or an international permit is needed.

Combo, or two separate days?

Let licences, ages and transport decide

Quad drivers need a valid physical car driving licence.

Two separate tours

He may drive the jet ski with consent, not the quad.

Two separate days

The combo provides no transport between the 35 km.

The quad with jet ski

It has 1,412 reviews, averaging 4.65 overall.

The jet ski safari

40 minutes or 1 hour along the south coast.

To drive personal watercraft in any form of use you must be 18; those aged 16 or over may still drive them, provided they have their parents' or guardians' consent.

The jet ski half: the south coast from San Miguel

The jet ski part starts from the San Miguel harbour, and you arrive 30 minutes before your booked time. The ride follows the coast past Montaña Amarilla, the bay of Costa del Silencio, Las Galletas and Montaña Roja. It is the same route as the standalone safari recommended across this site, which lasts 40 minutes or 1 hour.

Unlike the quad, the jet ski needs no licence and no experience, only good physical condition. Drivers must be at least 16, with written consent from a parent or guardian for 16 and 17-year-olds, and passengers at least 8. That difference matters for families: a 16-year-old can drive the jet ski with consent, but not the quad.

On the water you get a life jacket, goggles, drinks, lockers and a shower, and each jet ski needs its own cash deposit. Photos are taken at the best spots but sold separately. Montaña Amarilla, a Natural Monument shaped by a marine eruption, is one of the landmarks you pass close to the start.2

Two places, 35 km apart: making the day work

The combo package spells out the catch: the quad starts from Chío in Guía de Isora and the jet ski from pontoon H of the San Miguel marina, 35 km apart, and no transport between them is provided. You need a hire car or a taxi between the halves, and you should count that drive into your timing and your budget.

Booking works in two steps. The time slot you choose online is for the quad; the jet ski time is arranged afterwards by WhatsApp. Message the operator soon after booking, ask for a jet ski slot that leaves you enough time to drive, and keep a little slack for traffic. A morning ride and an afternoon quad mean you end the day dry and warm.

If the logistics feel like too much, split the activities across two days instead. Book the standalone jet ski safari from the San Miguel marina one morning, and the quad trip from Guía de Isora on another. You lose nothing but the combo price, and you gain a buffer if the sea or the mountain weather spoils one of the days. It also means each half gets your full attention instead of being squeezed between car journeys.

Who the combo suits, and who should split it

The combo suits adults who drive, like speed, and want a full day out. It suits groups of friends well, and couples where both hold a car licence. It suits families less, because the age and licence rules differ between the halves, and a younger teenager may ride the jet ski but only sit behind on the quad.

Think about stamina too. An hour of jet ski works the arms and the core, and several hours on a quad add vibration and concentration on mountain roads. Eat properly between the halves and drink plenty of water. The quad trip includes a drink and a snack, which keeps you going but is no substitute for lunch.

Check the health limits of both parts. The jet ski safari is not suitable for pregnant women, non-swimmers or people with back problems. Alcohol and drugs are ruled out on the jet ski safari, and nobody should drive a quad on mountain roads after a drink either. If one person in your group cannot ride one of the halves, the standalone tours are the fairer choice.

Weather, cancellation and what to bring

Two activities mean two kinds of weather. The sea can be too rough for a jet ski on a perfectly clear day, and the mountain can be cold or closed while the coast is warm. The quad trip has a plan B, an alternative route towards the coast when the main route is blocked. The harbour master can also change or stop jet ski riding for a while when conditions call for it.3

Both listings offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before, and both let you reserve now and pay later. Pick a day near the start of your trip, watch the forecast, and switch days if the wind rises; that freedom beats squeezing the combo into your final day.

Bring your physical driving licence, ID or passport, cash for a deposit on each machine, swimwear and a towel, fully closed shoes for the quad, and a layer for the mountain even in summer. Sun cream and sunglasses help on both halves. Leave valuables at the hotel; you will be changing in between.

Your hour at sea

Follow the guide boat along the volcanic coast.
