Double jet ski in Tenerife: driver, passenger and the rules
A double jet ski in Tenerife means one machine, one driver and one passenger. The limits on age, height and weight differ by listing, and they decide who can come along.

What a shared seat means on a guided ride
A double jet ski in Tenerife is not a different machine. It is the same craft with a longer seat, a driver in front and a passenger behind holding on. Spanish rules allow at most 2 users on each rental craft, unless the maker limits it to one, and an instructor supervises at most 4 of them.1 Both of you must wear an approved life jacket, driver and passenger alike.2
The tour booked on this page sells two ways in: a seat for 1 person only, or 2 people sharing 1 jet ski, with the meeting point depending on the option. It lasts 40 minutes to 1 hour, keeps groups to 8, and has instructors who speak English, Italian and Spanish. It starts from $52 and averages 4.78 from 919 reviews.
Why share at all? For a couple, a parent with a child or a nervous friend, riding behind someone you trust is a gentle way to try the sea at speed. The passenger can enjoy the coast without worrying about the throttle, and the driver can take it easy. If both of you want to steer, book two solo seats instead; you can still ride side by side in the group. Families sometimes mix the two: a parent drives with a young child behind, while an older teenager takes a machine of their own, with the signed consent the rules ask for.
Jet ski passenger rules, listing by listing
Jet ski passenger rules in Tenerife are set partly by law and partly by each operator. On the tour booked here, drivers riding alone must be 16, but a driver carrying a passenger must be 18, and children may join as passengers from the age of 6. The machines take approximately 160 kg, rider and passenger together.
On the safari from the San Miguel marina recommended across this site, a passenger must be at least 8 and strong enough to hold on to the driver, and the total weight on one jet ski may reach 200 kg. The Los Gigantes safari asks companions to be at least 8 years old and 1.35 m tall, again with 200 kg per jet ski.
At Las Galletas, passengers must be at least 125 cm tall, and 2 riders together may weigh up to 180 kg, while a solo rider may weigh up to 120 kg. A Puerto Colón tour caps its shared double at 170 kg for driver and passenger. A 1-hour double ride from Costa Adeje asks for a driver of 18 and a passenger of at least 10.

Should you share a jet ski?
Who rides behind, and on which listing
It takes children as passengers from the age of 6.
It allows up to 200 kg in total on one jet ski.
It collects you in Los Cristianos by jeep or SUV.
One booking covers the jet ski, solo or with a passenger.
Each driver then rides alone; the tour booked here sells a 1-person option.
Any user of a personal watercraft, whether driving it or riding as a passenger, must wear an approved life jacket.
Driving with someone behind you
Under Spanish rules the minimum age to drive any personal watercraft is 18, while 16 and 17-year-olds may drive with the signed consent of a parent or guardian.3 Some listings go further and ask for 18 whenever a passenger rides behind. If your teenager wants to take a younger sibling along, check that line on the listing before you book. The age rule follows the person holding the handlebars, not the passenger, so an adult can always drive with a child behind as long as the child meets that listing's passenger rule.
A second person changes how the machine behaves. It sits lower, turns wider and takes longer to slow down, and the passenger's weight shifts every time they look around. Ask your passenger to sit close, hold your waist or the grab strap, and lean with you in turns rather than against you. Agree on a simple tap signal for slowing down before you leave the pontoon.
Keep your speed modest at first and build up once you both feel settled. The guide sets the formation, and the rules ask riders to hold the spacing the instructor gives and never to overtake.4 With a passenger aboard, the spacing matters even more, because a sudden swerve to avoid the craft in front can unseat the person behind you.

The double ride with pickup from Los Cristianos
One listing is built entirely around pairs. It always puts 2 people on 1 jet ski for 1 hour, and anyone who wants a machine alone is pointed to the operator's single ride. It collects guests in Los Cristianos and drives them 20 minutes by jeep or SUV each way, which spares you the taxi. It starts from $70 with 94 reviews averaging 4.49.
Drinks, life vests, the guide, insurance and glasses against sun, wind and water are included, and there is a safe place for your belongings. The ride includes a stop for a swim in the sea. Guides speak English, Lithuanian, Polish, Spanish and Russian, a useful mix if your group is not all English speakers.
The weight rule is strict: the 2 riders together may not exceed 160 kg, and heavier pairs are asked to book 2 single jet skis. Bring your swimwear. If the limit is close for you, the Las Galletas safari allows 180 kg for 2 riders, and the San Miguel safari 200 kg on one jet ski.
Is sharing cheaper than two solo seats?
It depends on how the listing charges. The Las Galletas operator prices one booking per jet ski and lets you ride solo or with a passenger for the same price. On a listing like that, sharing cuts the cost per person in half. Its safari starts from $139 for 1 or 2 hours, single or double.
Other listings sell seats rather than machines, and the booking page shows the price for each option. Compare the shared option with two solo seats for your date before you decide; on the tour booked here both options are on the same listing, which makes the comparison quick. Remember the extras too: photos are optional and paid separately on that tour.
Price is only half the question. Riding alone, you steer, choose your own speed and keep your balance without a second body shifting behind you. For a child or a first-timer who would rather watch the coast, though, the passenger seat is the right one, and a shared ride means you experience the hour together. Talking at the stops, pointing out the coast and laughing at the spray is half the point of going as a pair.
Riding as a pair: practical tips
Before the ride, both of you should sit through the briefing, not just the driver. Spanish rules require a briefing on handling and the basic rules of navigation before anyone uses the machines.5 A passenger who knows what the driver will do next is a steadier passenger, and a calmer one.
Dress for getting wet. Spray comes over the front and hits the passenger as much as the driver. Swimwear under a light top, sunglasses or goggles on a strap, and nothing loose in your pockets are the basics. A life jacket is compulsory on every ride; on the San Miguel safari goggles are included too.
Finally, be honest about your limits. The San Miguel safari is not suitable for pregnant women, non-swimmers or people with back problems, and passengers there must be able to hold on firmly. The passenger seat takes every bump the driver takes, and sometimes more. If one of you is unsure, start with 40 minutes rather than 1 hour.
Your hour at sea

You ask,we answer.
Can two people ride one jet ski in Tenerife?
Yes, up to 2 users per craft. Spanish rules allow at most 2 users on each rental craft, both in life jackets.12
How old must a passenger be?
6 to 10, by listing. The tour booked here takes children from 6; the San Miguel safari from 8; one double ride from 10.
How old must the driver be with a passenger?
Often 18. The tour booked here and a Costa Adeje double ride both ask for 18 when carrying a passenger.
What is the weight limit for 2 riders?
From about 160 kg to 200 kg. It depends on the listing: about 160 kg on the tour booked here, 200 kg on the San Miguel safari.
Is there a double jet ski with hotel pickup?
Yes, from Los Cristianos. That ride always seats 2 people on 1 jet ski and includes a jeep transfer each way.
Does the passenger pay the same as the driver?
On some listings, nothing extra. At Las Galletas one booking covers the jet ski, ridden solo or with a passenger.
Is there a height limit for passengers?
On some rides. Las Galletas asks passengers to be 125 cm tall and Los Gigantes 1.35 m.
